A Conversation with Siya Mhlwatika of the South African Triathlon Development Academy

I am not sure if this person is part of SATD but photo illustrates the article well
Insidetri.com did an interview with Siya Mhlwatika, South African Triathlon Development Team, check it out here…
Last year I spoke with a guy from SATD. I am a sceptical a*****e so my first impression, as always with such things, is that it is a marketing gimmick to get some extra funding. But than this guy, I forgot his name, who was around 20, said he did Ironman South Africa 2006 in just under 12 hours. I was amazed. I asked him about his training and he did admit he is a lifeguard and he trained only about 6 months for the race. For anyone so young to complete an Ironman it is great.
I do not know much about the SATD and their athletes but it is also good such info gets outside of South Africa. If you have any more info about the SATD let me know… would be nice to do a feature on them…
Even though I am not South African I feel the same as Siya when she says:
I would like to see in the next 10 or 15 years a black South African guy or girl winning an Ironman or half Ironman wherever. I would love to see that. It’s not going to happen now, but these guys are going to go into high school and then to University. Maybe some will stay with triathlon and maybe one will win an Ironman. That would make me very, very happy.
That would be cool!
