Haile Gebrselassie Berlin marathon world record

Haile Gebrselassie is amazing and his new marathon world record is not a surprise to anyone who has been following his career. He has been shooting for it for quite some time now and finally he has taken it from Paul Tergat. Today he won the Real Berlin Marathon in 2 hours 4 minutes 26 seconds. He improved on Paul Tergat’s record by 29 seconds.

I have no idea how many records Haile Gebrselassie owns now. I remember few months ago I wrote about his world record on 60 minutes. I read that this is his most cherrished record and that he has been hoping for it ever since he started running as a kid. Also he did his first marathon at the age of 15 in 2:48!

However what amazes me most about Haile is that he is a successful businessman who employs more than 3000 people in Ethiopia. I guess that he makes a good argument against lack of running time due to work.
