Ironman Florida and NYC Marathon
November 5th, 2007 by Nikola Tosic
This was a busy weekend: a German double, Nina Kraft and Stephan Vuckovic, win at Ironman Florida and Paula Radcliffe and Lance Armstrong return at New York City Marathon (South Africa Hendrick Ramaala takes third).
I wrote two separate articles about Ironman Florida and Lance Armstrong at NYC Marathon at IronCrazy.com.
Amazingly there were no South Africans at Ironman Florida but there were pleanty at NYC Marathon. Best placed of course was Hendrick Ramaala. I can only guess he is disapointed to only take the third.
Just in the time while I was reading Paula Radcliffe’s book I watched her win in New York and I am happy that she had such a great return. She ran a crazy race, dominating and pushing from the very first meter. It was amazing to watch her. You have to trully be able to understand marathon to feel the agony of such strategy. Gete Wami managed to follow her all the way to the end but had to settle for second. However this gave her enough points in the Marathon Majors series to get the half million first prize.
Men’s race was totally different with an easy pace in the start and than lots of pace changes in the second half. A much smarter race with much more tactics but than again there was much more competition in the men’s field.
Another interesting event of the weekend were USA Olympic Marathon Trials in wich Ryan Hall, Dathan Ritzenheim and Brian Sell qualified. See the USA Olympic Marathon Trials official website here.
