Quelle Challenge Roth

Quelle Challenge Roth

Date: 24th June
Location: Roth, Germany
Total number of competitors: 2625 individuals and 514 relays (each with 3 competitors)

Women:
Yvonne Van Vlerken 08:51:55
Joanna Lawn 08:58:25
Belinda Granger 09:07:56

Men:
Chris McCormack 07:54:23
Eneko Llanos 08:06:06
Peter Jacobs 08:09:18

South African competitors (1):
Quentin Foster (M40) 9:57:08

Raynard Tissink was supposed to take part in the race but has decided not to participate due to an injury (read the press release).

Quentin Foster improved his Ironman South Africa 2007 time (10:49:4). This is, I guess, due to the quickness of the race course but also to few additional months Quentin had for training.

Chris McCormack missed the Ironman World Record by only 4 mins. He was on course until the last 10-15k of the run when he suddenly burned out. Also Yvonne Van Vlerken’s win was a surpise for most since she is not so well known internationally.

Ironman Germany

Ironman Germany

Date: 6th July
Location: Frankfurt, Germany

Total number of competitors: 2121

Women:
1. Leder Nicole 9:04.11,1
2. Brede Andrea 9:04.16,2
3. Eggert Nina 9:12.18,2

Men:
1. Bracht Timo, 8:09.15,0
2. Göhner Michael, 8:11.50,9
3. Vytrisal Frank, 8:13.34,4

Unfortunatelly no South African competitors in this race. Maybe next year? :)

Women’s finish must have been awesome to watch - only 5,1 seconds difference! It is also interesting that Nicole Leder almost caught up with her husband Lother Leder (8:43.55,9 - 20 min difference only).
