Ironman World Championship: one day to go
October 13th, 2007 by Nikola Tosic
Can’t believe it! One day to go! And a long day it is! Bike and run bags are packed and number is on bike. Check-in is this afternoon.
Had a great massive yesterday, island style, on the beach. Spend rest of the afternoon listening to the legends of the lava, Mark Allen & Dave Scott. Learned a lot. That’s really nice about the IM expo village, they have regular talks throughout the day. But that’s all gone now. Can you believe it, they take it away before the race. No post-race specials! Had the welcome dinner last night followed by race briefing, 20 minutes briefing session, nice and short.
Oh, forgot to tell you about the annual underpants run yesterday. It was hilarious! Some people take it very seriously.
Ali’i Drive is very festive today….getting ready with the aid stations, finish line, etc. Don’t know about the rest. I’m not going anywhere further today. I live in Ali’i Drive. To visualise, Ali’i Drive is about 10kms long, starting from Kona village with residential properties, condos, resorts, little beaches all along the way. It’s very green and leafy. But this is only for the first part of the run and the finish line. The rest is all along the Queen K into the Natural Energy Lab which is just black.
It’s going to be interesting tomorrow. Want to start now, it is getting to me!
