One South African at Ironman Arizona
April 14th, 2007 by Nikola Tosic
Ford Ironman Arizona is starting tomorrow, 15th April, 2007. There is only one triathlete representing South Africa in this race: Deon Bez and he is doing it for charity: race4MDS.
Apart from that Ironman Arizona seams to be an interesting race with a nice collection of PRO triathletes. One that caught my eye is a local from Scottsdale, Lewis Elliot - read his blog, has a nice intro for the IMAZ.
Michael Lovato, defending champion, also has a nice blog.
PRO field will also include Petr Vabrousek, Bryan Rhodes and Rutger Beke. I think Petr Varbousek had enough rest after Ironman South Africa during a 5 hour nap in the airplane on his way to Tempe.
Heather Gollnick, Joanna Zeiger and Katja Schumacher will compete in the women’s PRO category.
Hopefully this race will see more South Africans next year. If you are considering it make sure you register immediately when registration opens since these races sell out quite fast…
