In a weekend filled with Ironman racing it was pleasing to note that South Africa’s own Raynard Tissink returned to his winning ways at the incredibly tough Ironman Korea on the island of Jeju. There were also two other South African’s in the field, notably Lawrence van Lingen and Caroline Koll. Unfortunately I have not been able to find their results although they were both placed well toward the front after the swim leg.
The winning time of 9:08 says a lot about the intensity of the course and it seems that the marathon leg is particularly brutal with most the top athletes well over the 3hr mark. This was Raynard’s second win in the event, his first coming in 2002 and perhaps the benefits of Toni Hasler’s training are starting to show.

… update …
As I mentioned previously, Lawrence van Lingen and Caroline Koll also took part and I have just managed to find their results. Congratulations to both of them on their achievement.
6. Caroline KOLL 12:31:07
14. Lawrence VAN LINGEN 10:32:08
Interesting to note that Raynard’s marathon time was 3:25:35 with only 3 other athletes beating this, best of which was second place Byung Hung Park’s 3:08:01. I can only imagine how brutal the run leg was in temperatures approaching 37deg.

Congratulations to Raynard Tissink!!! He is finally back at the place where he belongs and I guess feels most comfortable: the top of the podium. Bravo!
